In short: For twins or two children close in age, choose a stroller that takes two children: with two separate seats side by side, in tandem, or as a single stroller with an extra seat. What matters is the weight limit per child, the width and weight of the stroller, and whether you can use a carrycot for a newborn. If your children will be different ages, an adaptable stroller is often worth it (e.g. Cybex Gazelle S or UPPAbaby Vista V3).

Three types of strollers for two children
First decide whether you need a stroller just for twins or one that can adapt to future changes in your family. Strollers for two children fall roughly into three types:
| Type | How it works | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Twin stroller with two seats | Two seats, side by side or in tandem (one behind the other), on the same frame | Twins or two children of similar age that you take out every day |
| Stroller for a close age gap | Interchangeable seat units that you adapt to your family's needs | Parents of children close in age (e.g. a newborn and a toddler) |
| Single stroller with an extra seat | A stroller for one child that you expand with an additional seat unit or carrycot for a second child | Families who will use the stroller for one child first and for two later |

What to look for in a twin stroller
- Weight limit per child: some models state a maximum weight for each child (e.g. up to 15 kg per child on the KikkaBoo Happy 2), others a higher one (e.g. up to 22 kg per child on the Cybex e-Gazelle S in double mode). Choose a model based on how much your children are expected to grow.
- Age: check from what age the seat is suitable. For a newborn you need a carrycot or a seat with a lie-flat position, so with small babies it matters that you can fit a carrycot on the frame.
- Width and weight of the stroller: check whether it fits through standard doors (especially in buildings with narrow hallways) and how much it weighs if you carry it up stairs or load it into the car.
- Folding and boot space: measure your boot and compare it with the folded dimensions of the stroller; with heavier double strollers it is important that you can fold it with one hand.
- Wheels and terrain: for uneven paths, gravel and forest trails, choose larger wheels with suspension (all-terrain wheels are also available as accessories, e.g. for the Mast).
- Shopping basket: storage space for shopping matters even more with two children; some models have an extra detachable basket (e.g. Cybex Gazelle S).
Examples of models that grow with your family
- Cybex Gazelle S: a stroller from birth up to 22 kg that you can use for one or two children with an additional sport seat. It offers roughly 20 or more configurations (seats, carrycots, Cybex car seats); the stroller itself weighs 12.6 kg. It has an extra detachable shopping basket and a large basket under the seat. For steeper routes there is also an electric version, the Cybex e-Gazelle S (weight limit up to 22 kg per child in double mode).
- UPPAbaby Vista V3: a 2-in-1 system with a carrycot for a newborn and a sport seat, offering more than 30 configurations for one, two or three children; the sport seat is suitable from 6 months up to 22 kg.
- Nuna Demi Next: an all-terrain stroller for one or two children with a higher sport seat position; for an older toddler there is an additional ride-on board (a platform for the feet), suitable up to about 4 years or 20 kg.
- KikkaBoo Happy 2: a twin stroller for two children, each up to 15 kg, with a lightweight aluminium frame and quick folding.
For families with a newborn and a toddler, an additional sport seat that you attach to the existing frame is also a good solution, if the chosen model allows it.
Stroller and car seat for two children
If both children have a car seat, check whether the frame takes two infant carriers (car seats 40–87 cm) with the right adapters. With heavier twin models this is usually a special option, so check it for your chosen model.
Frequently asked questions
Is a side-by-side or tandem stroller better for twins?
A side-by-side stroller is wider, but each child has the same view and space. A tandem is narrower and fits through narrow doors more easily, but it is longer. Decide based on the narrow spots you will have to get through and on your boot space.
Can I take a newborn and a toddler in the same stroller?
Yes, if you choose a stroller for a close age gap or one with interchangeable seat units that takes a carrycot for the newborn and a sport seat for the toddler.
Do I need special wheels?
Regular wheels are enough for tarmac. If you will be going on gravel, forest paths or snow, choose larger wheels with suspension or all-terrain wheels.
Can a baby sleep in the stroller?
A short nap in the carrycot during a walk is normal. For unsupervised sleep or sleeping at night, use the carrycot only if it is completely flat and the manufacturer states it is suitable for overnight sleep; otherwise move your baby to a cot.
Summary
First determine your children's ages and where you will use the stroller most often, then choose between a twin stroller, a stroller for a close age gap and a single stroller with an extra seat. Check the weight limit per child, the width and weight of the stroller and the space for shopping.
